Estill Springs, TN Swimming Pool Inspection

Swimming Pool inspection Services is called out to determine the cause of destruction to the liner and equipment in an Estill Springs, TN swimming pool.

Destroyed Swimming Pool in Estill Springs, TN

Swimming Pool Inspection Services was called upon to inspect an above-ground swimming pool in Estill Springs, TN, after homeowners claimed that it had been destroyed during a storm. Our inspector visited the property in question and spoke with the insured, who stated that the pool had been damaged during a 2016 storm.

Observations Made During Inspection

Our inspector performed a thorough inspection of the pool and adjacent areas, and made the following observations:

  • The above ground pool was empty of water.
  • The pool cover was damaged.
  • The liner was cracked and shredded, exposing the bottom of the pool.
  • The top of the liner was white, while the bottom of the liner was blue.
  • Rust was present at the seam of the pool wall, by the skimmer.
  • The pipes and hoses were not present.
  • The pressure gauge was not present.
  • The pump, strainer lid, and baskets were in fair condition.
  • There was a small black spot on the top of the filter.
  • There was no visible damage to the motor at the 110 hook up.

Analysis of Inspection Observations

The discoloration of the liner indicated to our inspector that the pool had been over-chlorinated with a low PH balance. A liner shrinks and becomes brittle when there is no water to cover it and it is exposed to the elements. The liner would not have cracked had it been wet, signifying that the pool had been left empty.

Rust at the seam by the skimmer indicated that a leak had been present for a substantial amount of time. There was a small black spot on top of the filter. However, our inspector did not believe it had been caused by lightning (as had been reported to the insurance company).

Cause of Loss in Estill Springs, TN Inspection

It was the opinion of our inspector that a leak had gone unhandled at the skimmer for an extended period of time (the leak could have been from the skimmer itself or from a hole in the liner). The condition of the liner was caused by poor chemical maintenance and exposure to the air and sun. Our inspector did not observe any storm damage to the pool or equipment. Unfortunately, the pool was not worth salvaging, and would need to be replaced altogether.
